In our journey of faith, we often find ourselves striving to understand the “deeper” mysteries of Scripture. Yet, in this pursuit of the profound, we sometimes overlook the obvious, the clear and straightforward teachings that are right in front of us.
For example, the instruction to give thanks in everything. This simple, unambiguous directive has the power to shift our focus from what we lack to what we have, fostering a heart of contentment and joy. It is a valuable attitude asset that blesses us and those around us.
Another clear directive is to love others as you love yourself. This principle dominates the landscape of the Scriptures. It is the sun-on-a-clear-day guide for our interactions with others. Even when we don’t fully understand what this love looks like in every situation, just seeking it, praying about it, and pursuing it seasons our relationships with more grace and less judgment.
Forgiveness is yet another obvious truth that is often ignored. The Scriptures emphasize the importance of forgiving others, just as we have been forgiven. This act of grace is often challenging, but it is fundamental to Christ-like love and to a healthy spirit.
As we navigate by faith the ever-increasing complexities of life, if we simply follow the obvious road signs, they will lead us to places that bless others, invigorate us, and most importantly, bring pleasure and honor to our Lord.
