It is important for the sake of compassion and humility to realize God so loved “the world.” But for personal, spiritual transformation it is more important for each of us to believe Jesus died for ME.
In other words, it is easier for us to see ourselves as part of the mass of humanity that Jesus came to save than as individuals that He rescued one at a time. It is easier to conceive that He gave His life for all of us and then opened heavens gates so we could all walk in en masse than to believe that, bearing the wounds of the cross, He looked each one of us directly in the eyes and escorted each one of us through those gates.
Though it feels intimidating and overwhelming to think God has so much love for YOU that He would send His own Son to pay with His life the price to make YOU part of His family, that is the gospel. Believe it. Allow that astonishing truth to set in. Thank God for it. Ask Him to let it become for you a fully immersive experience. For it is when we realize that He “loved ME and gave Himself up for ME” (Galatians 2:20) that real spiritual growth begins to happen.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
