I love the creature comforts I’ve been blessed with. They bring me joy, pleasure, and real comfort – and I know I would grieve their loss.
At the same time, my soul’s center of gravity is not there. Each day I’m learning – again – that my LIFE is not in what I own or what I do. It’s not in any external blessing or human relationship. The ultimate quality of my life is in my connection to the Living Christ, made real by the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Every day I’m investing in Him as my truest treasure, my brightest dream, and my supreme delight – not as a substitute for my earthly life, not as a shield against loss, not as spiritualized detachment or pre‑grief. He is not just a safety net below; He is my trapeze partner above.
I’m looking to Him as the source of the true riches to which all earthly things, experiences, and relationships are meant to point. Earthly joys can warm my life, but only Christ can fill it. I’m grateful for the gifts, but I’m anchored in the Giver. The comforts of life bless me, but the Life Himself sustains me. And every day I’m learning a little more about the difference between enjoying abundance and being owned by it.
In short, whether in plenty or in scarcity, I want to know the One who not only gives life, but who is Life itself.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
