God promises rich blessings for those who walk in humility, trust, and gratitude. The challenge, of course, is that we can’t make ourselves any of those things. But that doesn’t leave us stuck. It simply shifts our focus to what is within reach.
We can’t manufacture humility, but we can notice pride when it rises – in our tone, in our defensiveness, in the way we dismiss or disregard someone else’s viewpoint. We can name it before the Lord, and that naming opens a window. Humility, then, comes in on its own.
We can’t force ourselves to trust, but we can affirm what is true when fear or cynicism or accusation start whispering their old lines. We can say, even quietly, “In Christ, I have peace with God. He loves and cares for me. He has not forgotten me.” Trust grows in the soil of truth repeated.
And we can’t make ourselves feel grateful on command. But we can give thanks – small thanks, honest thanks – for His provision, His protection, His presence, and the supportive people He has placed in our lives. And we can trust God to turn those seeds into real gratitude over time.
That’s enough for today: not trying to remake ourselves, but recognizing and welcoming the graces that come when we clear a little space for them.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
