The church is taking a beating these days. All the division we’re seeing – a lot of it political – piled on top of our own personal stuff. All the human flaws that dim the reflection of Christ to others. To the world, we may look more like a confused, angry crowd than ambassadors for Christ.
But what we actually are is the bride before the wedding. Beloved, chosen, spoken for – but still in her everyday clothes. And like any bride, we have our good days and our not‑so‑good days. Some days we’re hopeful, steady, and beautiful in ways we don’t even notice. And some days we’re cranky, combative, anxious, distracted. Some days we limp more than we glide. We’re still learning how to love, and it shows.
But none of that changes the vow. God isn’t rethinking anything. He’s not cooling off or looking for a better bride. And a day is coming when we’ll be stunning – not because we finally got our act together, but because “He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ” (Philippians 1:6). Christ finishes what He starts.
Right now we’re the bride in preparation. One day – maybe sooner than we think – we’ll be the bride in splendor.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
