Like many grandparents, my wife is helping out with remote learning with our grandson, and like many grandchildren, he sometimes drives her crazy. But then, when he is gone, she misses him. There is an explanation for this sickness. It’s called love. There is more to our grandson than his mischief, like his humor, his creativity, his affection and his sweetness. She doesn’t like everything he does but she loves the total package of him.
That gives us a sketch of God’s love for us. No doubt our behavior “drives Him crazy” at times as He is trying to teach us, but despite our idiosyncrasies, unbelief and waywardness, because of Christ, He always welcomes us and is happy that we are around. He loves the total package of who we are, our unique personalities, even as He lovingly refines some of the contents of the package.
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3).
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
