Each one of us in Christ is a part of church history. It did not stop when the Bible was completed any more than U.S. History stopped when the Declaration of Independence was ratified or when the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect. And in God’s appraisal, each of our names is as significant a part of that history as anyone else’s. We are not the pot scrapings of a glorious past, we are fresh entrees of a magnificent present. For God did not just allow us into His family and His work, He called us and crafted us in Christ for our roles in the ongoing story of His loving pursuit of mankind. “God picked you out as His from the very start. Think of it: included in God’s original plan of salvation by the bond of faith in the living truth. This is the life of the Spirit He invited you to through the Message we delivered, in which you get in on the glory of our Master, Jesus Christ” (2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 MSG).

How well does the Lord know you?
Imagine, when we run to our favorite hiding place and open the door, He is already there, eating a banana. Everywhere we turn He beats us to the spot. We can choose to withhold our hearts from Him but we cannot conceal them. So we might as well “reveal” what He already knows. The blessing that awaits us when we do is when we give Him our trust, He gives us the security of reassurance of His love and the warmth of His peace. And so we are exhorted, “Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge” (Psalm 62:8).
