“So that your trust may be in the LORD, I teach you today, even you” (Proverbs 22:19 NIV).
The definition of trust is “a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.” This sums up not only the goal of the Proverb but the purpose of life itself from God’s perspective. Trusting in the Lord involves the firm belief that He will care for our human needs and desires. It also means trusting in His character even if He doesn’t give us what we want. In either case, the greatest blessings are in the trust itself not in the outcomes.
“Trust” is God’s goal for us through the pleasures, the pains, the gains and losses and the everydayness of life. It is a palace that is impervious to life’s ups and downs. Its rooms and corridors are filled with supernatural treasures, like peace beyond human understanding, recycled weakness turned into strength, wisdom beyond human reason, contentment in all circumstances and joy unlike anything the world can give.
Whatever may be the events of this week, they are not an end in themselves but a drawbridge giving us access to the glorious Palace of Trust.
