[Special Solar Eclipse edition]
Today, the world was captivated by the solar eclipse, with the shaded sunlight casting an unusual hue on the earth.
Similarly, our circumstances can sometimes eclipse our faith, casting a shadow over our hope and dimming our enthusiasm.
To counteract this effect, I’ve found nothing more effective in my faith journey of over 40 years than setting aside time each day to express thanksgiving to the Lord. My thankfulness is not primarily for material possessions or resolved situations, but for the relationship I share with Him.
For instance, I express thanks for who I am to Him and who He is to me because of Christ. I thank Him for using my life’s circumstances to deepen my trust in Him. I appreciate His constant accessibility and the freedom to approach Him. I thank Him for His understanding of me, which is deeper than my own, and for His personal care for me. I thank Him for helping me recognize the daily blessings that I might otherwise overlook. I give thanks for His guidance in showing me what is true beyond what I see, and for making familiar biblical verses come alive in my heart. These examples are part of the unsearchable riches of Christ that He continues to reveal to me and remind me of each day.
As familiar and simple as giving thanks may seem, let’s not underestimate its profound impact. It significantly brightens our disposition, brings fresh light to our perspective, and affects every single area of our lives. Perhaps that’s why there is no biblical instruction presented more often, not as a special phenomenon but as an ongoing practice. This is why I present it once again today, as a boost to our coming week.
