Hunger is never pleasant, but there’s a certain delightful anticipation that accompanies hunger pangs when you know satisfaction is imminent. Like when you’re driving down the road, and suddenly, a sign appears indicating your favorite eatery is just a couple of miles ahead. You smile, your mouth waters, and you eagerly anticipate the satisfying deliciousness that awaits you.
When our souls are hungry, that road sign points us to Christ. Hunger and thirst for God is evidence of an intimate and growing relationship with Him. He is always open for us, with this promise displayed over the door, “I satisfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who languishes” (Jeremiah 31:25 NASB).
