The name of God rendered “Jehovah Rohi” appears only once in Scripture – right at the opening of Psalm 23. “Jehovah Rohi” means “The LORD my Shepherd.” And David follows that name with a promise strong enough to anchor us in God’s care and steady any Monday: “I shall not want.”
This is the truth sturdy enough to carry into the day. In that one line, David is telling us something deeply personal and profoundly simple – something we can actually live on: Jehovah Rohi leads me into a life where nothing is missing because He is enough. Before the psalm speaks of green pastures or still waters, before it mentions restored souls or fearless valleys, it anchors us in the Shepherd Himself. His presence is provision. His nearness is nourishment. His care is completeness.
So in all your goings and doings today – your tasks, your conversations, your quiet moments and your hurried ones – carry this blessing of truth with you: Jehovah Rohi, the faithful Shepherd, goes ahead of you and walks beside you. He is your steadying presence, your source of grace for wherever you are and wherever you’re heading. And because He is your Shepherd, you won’t lack what today requires.
