To our graduates: We are all proud of you, and you should be proud of you. It’s a day you will always remember. I graduated the year Richard Nixon resigned from the White House. Tom Brady, age 43, the oldest quarterback in NFL history to win a Super Bowl, wasn’t in diapers; he was three years away from being born. “All in the Family” and “Sanford and Son” were the two top tv shows. And the number one tune was the jam “Rock The Boat” by the Hues Corporation. Are you laughing? Well, the cool hit song of this year will one day be an oldie your kids will snicker at, too. The time will pass quickly now. So let me encourage you to cherish your days, make wise choices, especially after you’ve made poor ones. That is called growth. And remember your Creator in the days of your youth. You’ve been given a great start and a wonderful foundation. Your parents have loved you, provided for you and prayed for you. Now the road bends. Earnestly pursue your dreams but always be mindful that everything will change and all earthly glory will eventually fade. So my advice to you is to invest fully in getting to know the One who is changeless from everlasting to everlasting, and in the words of an old hymn, “build your hopes on things eternal; hold to God’s unchanging hand.”
