Text: “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, {2} but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. {3} The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven” (Hebrews 1:1-3)
Vs 2 – “Heir of all things.”
• Everything we see belongs to him.
• (Gal 4:7 NIV) So you, as for you, believers… “God has made you also an heir.”
Vs 2 – “Made the universe.”
• What do we really know about that kind of wisdom?
• He created the laws of physics.
Vs. 3 Exact representation of His being.
• Jesus was and is God in the flesh.
• John 14:9 to Phillip – “If you have seen Me you have seen the Father. …
• John 10:30 “I and the Father are One.”
• God has chosen not only to walk with us but to live in us. Jesus Christ, through the expression of the Holy Spirt, lives in each one of us.
Vs. 3 Sustains all things by His powerful word.
• What do we know about this kind of power? What do we know about how much it would take to sustain this world?
• Acts 17:28 In Him we move and breathe and exist…
• When we put all that together, from a practical, real life standpoint, it makes our problems – whatever they are – seem small in comparison.
Vs. 3 Purified sins.
• The birth of Jesus without the cross of Jesus is incomplete. “For this hour I came into the world.” (John 12:27). The Scripture instructs us if we just stopped with the birth of Jesus, we are still in our sins.
• Because of the cross… Psalm 149:4 says He has made us delightful. He has crowned us with victory. He has made us overcomers! By the metric that matters most now and ultimately will be the only one that matters, we are winners!
Vs. 3 “Sat down at the right hand of God.”
• But not forever! One day He will return with the hosts of heaven.
