The View from My Place – “A Full Knowledge Love”

April 29, 2026 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

Is anything more spiritually motivating than realizing we are fully known and fully loved? I don’t think so. So this morning I’m sitting with the simple, staggering truth of David’s words from Psalm 139: “O Lord, You have searched me and You know me.” I know what it feels like to say to a friend, “well, you know me,” and trust they understand the unspoken parts. But the Lord knows me more so. He knows when I sit and when I rise. He perceives my thoughts from afar. He is familiar with all my ways – even the ones LaVern hasn’t figured out yet. (And she’s really good. I’ve told her she should have been a spy because she notices everything and forgets nothing.) Before a word is on my tongue, He knows it completely. I don’t have to explain myself to Him. If I can’t form the words, He still knows. He hems me in like a parent guiding a child across a busy street, never letting me drift too far from His hand.

And the part that overwhelms me today is this: God’s Spirit isn’t just waiting for me wherever I go – He is inside me on the way. There is no darkness that can hide me, no puzzle that can confound Him, no problem that makes Him scratch His head or tap His finger to His lips. Darkness is as light to Him. He sees it all. He created my inmost being, so He knows how I am wired. How I process life. How I react. How much I can take. What my inmost being needs. All my days were written in His book before one of them came to be. I’m not leaving here until my ordained days are over. Until then, I am – in the truest sense – indestructible.

But then David pivots. He looks at the madness of the world and cries out, “Lord, I hate it. Make it stop!” And I feel that too. And then, like a reminder notice on my phone, I remember I’ve got my own issues. I’m human and therefore not beyond anything humans do. It’s a humbling thing to admit – but also a freeing one. Because I am still fully loved.

So, I end where David ends: Search me, O God. Know my heart. Test me. Know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Lord, You know me. You love me. Help me to be open to Your coaching. Show me how deeply I am loved – and where I can be better.
