There are many kinds of love stories. Of course, we are most familiar with the boy meets girl genre, but there are also love stories of people for their pets, like the one involving my friend who yesterday had to put down her cat that she loved for many years after finding it as a kitten whose eyes had not yet opened. There are love stories of friends, like David and Jonathan, or in sports of players’ love for their teammates, or in the military of comrades-in-arms’ love for one another.
The list goes on. But today I was reminded that the ultimate love story is the one starring the Creator of the universe and me. For reasons only He knows, He wanted to be friends with me, personally and intentionally. He pursued me and persisted until He won my heart.
Of course, I am not the only one He has befriended or wants to befriend.
Though it is misunderstood and often misused, the Bible is in fact a love story about the Creator’s passionate attempts and extravagant means to convince every person of His love for each one of them. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
Every day I ask the Lord to help me to freshly realize and to embrace our love story. And today, I am asking Him to help you do the same.
