Here comes Father’s Day weekend and a lot of men are thinking all they want to do is “chill.” I’m one of them. I am making elaborate plans to do nothing. But I also want to trust the Lord for a different experience this weekend, so I am extending to Him an invitation to be the guest of honor in my “chill zone” this weekend. After all, He is God THE Father. He gave me my earthly father and He made it possible for me to be a father. So, on Father’s Day I want Him to not only be part of my celebration, I want Him to be central to it.
Why not? He is not a stressor. He is not a chore. He is not a task. He is not a “buzz kill.” According to the Scriptures, He is the ultimate Source of delight, peace, rest and relaxation – all of which are the active ingredients of “chilling.”
I don’t have a plan, nor am I planning to have a plan. I’m just sending the invitation via “prayer mail” and moving into the weekend. We’ll see how He responds.
