The View from My Place – “No Ordinary Day”

July 3, 2024 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

“Nothing of importance happened today,” King George III of Great Britain recorded in his diary on Thursday, July 4, 1776.

Like all of us, King George was confined to the narrow view of his immediate surroundings. He was oblivious to the significant events unfolding on that unremarkable Thursday. Even with knowledge of those events, he could not have predicted the monumental impact that the signing of the Declaration of Independence by a group of dissatisfied colonists would have on his life, his nation, and the world. And yet, here we are today!

There is always more influencing our lives than what is immediately visible. As believers, we have the assurance that God is orchestrating these unseen events for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes (Romans 8:28).

Today may bring a profound revelation of His nature, the resolution of a longstanding issue, a significant “assignment of love,” or the provision for an essential need. It could even be a unique form of a grand, comforting, divine “embrace.” We cannot foresee how our lives will be impacted by the events of today, but we can know that God is crafting miracles out of the ordinary and routine. Therefore, let us stay tuned.
