The View from My Place – “The Life in Our Living’.”

June 24, 2026 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

Jesus once said, “Do not worry about your life… life is more than food and the body more than clothes,” and I think all of us would agree that’s a wonderful invitation but a hard one to accept because of those pesky, persistent, noisy daily details.

Still, today those words have been pressing on me in a new way. Jesus wasn’t dismissing food or clothing or the real responsibilities of life; He was reminding us that survival isn’t the same thing as living. And I’m realizing – again – that I really do want the “more” He’s talking about. Not the “more” the world keeps advertising. Not the “more” others think I should chase. Not even the “more” I imagine for myself. I want the “more” He has in mind.

And Jesus tells us where that “more” is found: seeking. Seeking His kingdom. Seeking His righteousness. For those of us who belong to Him, that seeking is simply opening ourselves to His voice, His priorities, and the interests of His kingdom. It’s not neglecting our daily responsibilities; it’s learning how, in doing them, we can serve His purposes and reflect His righteousness. It’s shifting the energy we usually spend worrying about life toward learning – and remembering – what it means to actually live.
