Here’s how I’ve come to think about worship these days. Worship is accepting God’s invitation to enjoy Him. It’s pausing long enough to acknowledge His power, His wisdom, His love for us, and His endless creativity. To allow His glory to permeate and settle into our spirits.
For me, it’s more than a spiritual discipline, more than a box to check or a duty to perform. It’s God saying, “Come, dine and be satisfied, inspired and refreshed in the wonders of who I am.”
And that invitation meets us in all kinds of ordinary moments – through music, through writing, through reading, through prayer, and through quiet moments of meditation away from the nonstop noise of the world.
However we get there, worship not only blesses the Lord; it also clears the fog and lets us see God’s magnificence again. It reminds us, “Oh right… He really is that marvelous and majestic. And He really does love ME.”
So today my heart joins the psalmist David, who worshipped Him with these words: “My whole being will exclaim, ‘Who is like You, O LORD?’” (Psalm 35:10). And I say, Thank You, Lord, for continually impressing me through all these years simply by showing me who You are.
