The View from My Place – “When Prayer Fatigue Strikes”

April 30, 2025 By Dan Baty Leave a Comment

There are times when prayer flows effortlessly—when words spill from the heart and communion with God is a joy. But there are also times when it feels like an uphill climb, when prayer fatigue settles in. Yet even in these moments of spiritual weariness, the Lord remains attentive and affectionate towards us. No matter how depleted we feel, “He will not grow tired or weary” (Isaiah 40:28). When words and energy fail us, the Spirit helps us in our weakness and intercedes for us in a way that goes beyond words (Romans 8:26).

Even on our “best” days, when our words are vibrant, flowing freely and passionately, they are but faint signals from our inner depths, and only the Lord, who searches the heart, can fathom their truest meanings, desires and intentions (Jeremiah 17:10).

So, if you find yourself weary, take heart, the Lord does not tire of you. He always welcomes you with rich blessings and places a crown of pure gold on your head (Psalm 21:3) in every spiritual condition, with or without words, and with or without fervor. Keep coming to Him—not just with your prayers, but with your very being. You matter to Him far more than your prayer performance and even beyond your comprehension.

Therefore, we can say with confidence, praises to You, Lord, that my presence, no matter how frequent or intense can never overwhelm You, and no matter how quiet or reflective, will never bore You.
