I am reminded today that, according to the Scriptures, it is better to have faith in the Master’s plan than in my master plan. It is better to trust in His wisdom than to rely on my own understanding. This is especially true when I am not getting the results I want, whether in possessions, circumstances, relationships or even in my own spiritual growth.
The relentless “shoulds” – I should be more patient, kinder, more disciplined – can be part of my master plan for Christian growth. But are they part of the Master’s plan?
Godly aspiration is wonderful and Spirit-driven. However, when it turns into discontentment, frustration, and shame, it exposes my reliance on my own plan’s target areas and timetable. The best complement to godly aspiration is thankfulness to God for the work He is doing in me and has done in me, even as I aspire to higher ground. Giving thanks is always part of God’s Master Plan for me, and it pairs perfectly with wherever I am in my spiritual journey.
