Today is a day I’ve designated as “Torch-bearer Appreciation Day.” It’s a day when I pause to give thanks for some of the special individuals whom the Lord has dispatched to guide me through dark and dismal places with their light. These torch-bearers, through their words, deeds, and prayers, have been used by the Lord to light up my way with their encouragement, prayers, love, and support.
In our life’s journey, we all find ourselves stranded in challenging times, unsure of the path ahead. It’s in these moments of uncertainty that our torch-bearers arrive, helping us navigate one step at a time through the darkness of tough times to the sunrise of new beginnings.
The Bible gives us many examples of torch-bearers who provided guidance and support in times of need. Jonathan was a torch-bearer to David, strengthening him in the Lord when David was fleeing for his life from Jonathan’s father, King Saul (1 Samuel 23:16-17). Ruth was a torch-bearer for her mother-in-law Naomi when tragedy struck their family (Ruth 1:16-17). And Titus was a torch-bearer for the apostle Paul, bringing comfort when he desperately needed it (2 Corinthians 7:6-7).
I invite you to join the celebration today. Take a moment to reach out to your torch-bearers and thank them for their light. By acknowledging their contributions, we not only honor them and glorify God for sending them, but we also inspire others to recognize and appreciate the torch-bearers in their own lives. Whether through a heartfelt message, a phone call, or a simple gesture of appreciation, let them know how much they mean to you.
And remember, you’ve been a torch-bearer for others, providing the light of hope and support in their times of need. So, don’t forget to thank God for His work through you.
May the Lord continue to bless our torch-bearers and our torch-bearing with the light of His grace.
