Among a number of other possible applications, “Give us this day our daily bread,” (Matthew 6:11) presupposes a daily spiritual hunger and God as the source of its fulfillment. The desire for fresh inspiration from the Lord doesn’t mean we have forgotten yesterday’s provision, or that we don’t appreciate it, or that we are greedy; it just means we are hungry again today, spiritually, in the same way we hunger each day physically. The blessing is the Lord never tires of feeding us nor runs out of bread.
