Don’t be frustrated because you are not where you want to be spiritually. Odd as it seems, the desire for spiritual growth is itself an indicator of spiritual growth. Desire is like the hidden roots of the plant that will eventually be apparent to the eyes. As Jesus put it, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be satisfied” (Matthew 5:6). Like roots, the hunger and thirst are a part of what will eventually be manifested.
We cannot manufacture spiritual desire; it is God-given. Therefore, instead of being frustrated about what we are not, let us give thanks to the God who has blessed us with the roots of the outward growth, which is to come in due season.
