This morning I noticed a man changing the tire of an older woman who was apparently someone he didn’t know. When he finished, she gave him a warm hug and drove away with the donut spare filling in for her regular tire.
I caught the eye of the man, who was now sitting in his pickup truck, and I gave him a quick salute with a nod. He smiled and waved, realizing I was acknowledging his benevolent service.
The way I see it, when someone does something that inspires us, we have received a gift, even if we aren’t the direct recipient. And just like receiving a material gift, thanking the giver is a good thing. People don’t know they’ve been a blessing to us unless we let them know, and though we cannot thank everyone for every kindness, whenever we do it is a gift to them.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
