God can do all things without anyone’s help, but He has chosen to work through people. God did not need anyone to represent Him in order to deliver Israel from enslavement, but He chose to use Moses. In the same way, God doesn’t need Christians to represent Christ in order to accomplish His work on earth, but He has chosen to do so. That makes each one of us, flawed and fickle as we may be, a specially designed, strategically placed, and highly significant part of His work, even if we aren’t a “necessary” part of it. “Everything” and “nothing” depends on us at the same time. We can experience the exhilaration of being used by God and the relief of knowing He is greater than our limitations and failures. It is a paradox that builds our faith in the Lord and increases our appreciation of Him.
