Just a Moment with Pastor Dan Baty

Are you flustered with your “fruitfulness?”

As believers, we now belong “to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God“ (Romans 7:4). We are vines abiding in the Branch that is Jesus Christ, and our redeemed purpose in life is now to bear fruit for God.

But let us be careful how we consider this purpose, because it is fruit for God that we are bearing. It is not our fruit; the fruit belongs to Him. It is for His pleasure and purposes that we bear it. It is His fruit to determine how He wants to use it.

That is an important truth because in the quest to find our “purpose,” we can get caught up in measuring our significance and success by how we think the fruit of our lives should be used. We use our own criteria of what it should look like, how many people it should affect and what should be its ultimate effect. But it is God who determines how much of His fruit, which we bear for Him, to distribute – and to whom. If He wants to use the fruit from our life to serve thousands, so be it. Or, if He wants to make a pie from it to share just with us and enjoy it together, so be it. It’s our job to bear it; it’s God’s job to share it. And our faith task is to trust in Him for contentment with either or both.

Something to take just a moment to consider today.
