Fullness of life, as defined by the Scriptures is not found in our possessions, adventures or achievements. In its essence, it is the assurance in our inner being of God’s love for us. It is the internal experience of His beyond-human-understanding affection, regardless of external conditions. It is not produced by our human effort but is facilitated by the Holy Spirit. It is a heavenly endowment that God gives to His people. It is beyond human willpower or intellect. That is why, as the apostle Paul considered this blessing, he said, “My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask Him to strengthen you by His Spirit… and I ask Him that… you’ll be able to take in with all Christians the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:14-21 MSG).
Paul’s prayer indicates that we cannot control this experience, but God gives it generously and desires us to have it in abundance. For our part, we make ourselves receptive to it by worshiping Him, prayerfully meditating on His promises, being with His people, engaging Him in our daily lives and trusting in His complete care for us.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
