There are times in our spiritual journey with the Lord when we feel an exquisite and almost “smug” sense of invincibility and security. It’s a deep-seeded belief that we are as securely “set for life” as the wealthiest of the wealthy. It’s a feeling of fearlessness about the future, regardless of the unknown details of it and regardless of how agonizing or arduous it may be. It is not a belief that the Lord will necessarily protect us from experiencing tribulations but that He will be with us and He will be enough.
This is one of the manifestations of being filled with the Spirit. It is beyond self-confidence. It is supernatural confidence. It is our soul boasting, not in ourselves but in the Lord: “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me…” (Jeremiah 9:23-24). Such boasting is Spirit-generated, Heaven-endorsed and solidly rooted in the truth that the Lord Himself is our refuge and strength and always abundantly available for help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
Something to take just a moment to consider in the fog of the present worldwide upheaval.
