Good Friday is a day to give thanks for the greatest gift of love ever given and to reflect on its implications for our lives today. If there ever was a day to take a moment to pause for reflection, it is today. Whatever other commemorative statements you may read about this day, they all converge on this: “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…” (1 Timothy 1:15). He did not come to change the world’s system, to teach people how to live virtuous lives, or to be a what-would-Jesus-do example of good religion. He came to give His life, in the most agonizing way, so that everyone who trusts in Him would receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life. It is a simple and familiar truth with eternal implications.
Will you take a few moments to contemplate this today?
