Life consists of moment-by-moment choices in the ever-present “now.” We can’t act in the past or the future, only in the present. Each moment is a gateway to new possibilities. Every moment provides an opportunity for positive action, and even poor decisions in the present moment offer a chance to make better ones in the next. “I’m sorry.” “I changed my mind.” “I didn’t mean that.” “Forgive me.” These choices can prevent “bad” from accumulating interest. Athletes practice this all the time. They make a mistake and instead of sulking about it and letting it affect the rest of their performance, they focus on “now.”
The essential question before us all day, every day is, “What am I going to do now?” “Now” is our workstation. What attitude will I choose for this interaction? What action will I choose in response to this situation? What am I going to choose to believe about myself?
This “now” perspective encourages us to embrace the present moment—regardless of what preceded it—with hope and openness, recognizing it as a fresh chance to enrich our relationship with God and others.
Just a reminder to take just a moment to consider today.
