With the eternal fate of humanity hanging in the balance, Jesus stood before a man who, in the eyes of Jesus’ followers, seemed to hold the power to snuff out their only hope for redemption. That man, Pontius Pilate, voiced with authority, “Do You not know that I have the power to release You and the power to crucify You?” Jesus replied, “You would have no power over Me if it were not given to you from above” (John 19:10-11). And with that stunning response, Jesus acknowledged a higher authority governing His fate and the world’s.
In the wake of that fateful exchange, the hopes of His disciples plunged into the darkest abyss when Jesus was condemned to death and crucified. Yet, amid their despair, heavenly glory was conceived and, just days later, burst forth in radiant, blinding light and boundless power.
So let us give thanks to the Lord for unveiling the hidden truths about the real state of affairs on this earth—the unseen truths that prevail over the visible. For although today’s world may seem to be enveloped in escalating turmoil, we have been assured through the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that no force can thwart the plans of the One who ascended with “all authority in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18). In these turbulent times, our focal point of faith is not just “God is still on the throne.” It is more specific and rooted in history: “Jesus Christ is risen from the dead!” (1 Corinthians 15:20). Will you embrace your faith in Him today?
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
