A red light feels like an interruption, a blink of boredom between one rush and the next. But sometimes that pause can be something else. It could become a moment to notice the toddler giggling in the crosswalk, the calming colors of a painted sky, the laughter or tears of the driver next to us, or the stillness beneath our own hurried thoughts. A stillness that whispers, “this matters, too.”
How we frame the pause influences how we experience it. Is this delay a nuisance, or is it grace disguised as inconvenience? The lens we choose doesn’t change the light turning red. But it can change us.
Paul saw his delay of imprisonment as a megaphone for the gospel (Philippians 1:12–14). Mary and Martha watched the clock run out, but their delay made room for something greater: their brother’s resurrection from the dead (John 11). David was on his way to a vengeful murder until Abigail literally stopped him in his tracks (1 Samuel 25). Okay, her beauty didn’t hurt, but grace did the convincing.
So next time you’re stuck at a traffic light, or struck by any pause in your plans, why not ask: What surprising blessing might God be giving you time to see?
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
