In every single moment we have fresh choices that will influence our immediate and distant future.  We may not be able to choose our emotions, but in any moment we can choose our response to those emotions.  We cannot always control our circumstances, but in any moment we can choose our approach to dealing with them.  We cannot control another person’s behavior, but in any moment we can choose our words or actions towards that person.  In any moment we can choose to handle things on our own or we can invite God into the moment.  This is true for every single moment of our lives, and an entire life is but a collection of moment by moment choices.

The choices we make in a moment won’t always instantly change the nature of the present moment but they will change our orientation to the next moment – for better or worse.
