It is a biblical fact that Jesus’s fiercest words, including those He spoke as He overturned the tables in the Temple courtyard, were most often directed at the powerful, not the weak. At the religious establishment, not the confused wanderers. At the social elites, not the poor and struggling.
His gentleness, by contrast, was consistently extended to the downtrodden, not to those doing the trodding.
Jesus own words underscore the point: “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, ‘We see,’ your sin remains” (John 9:41).
