The haunting part of Halloween isn’t just the costumes or cobwebs; it’s the menacing overtures of death, represented by ghosts, goblins, zombies, and skeletons. But death is not a make-believe character; it is as real as the air we breathe.
Life goes on for us. Sunrise after sunrise. Goodbye hugs and kisses. Work. School. “How was your day?” Haircuts. Grocery runs. Showers. Birthdays. Until it all comes to an end. Gradually. Or abruptly.
But the good news for those in Christ is this: our check-out day is also our check-in day. We don’t check out into silence. We check in to glory. The moment we leave this life, we enter His presence. No waiting room. No limbo. No delay. Just a door that opens from one side and is held open from the other. Out of the tent, into our home. Out of the ache, into His arms.
“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands” (2 Corinthians 5:1).
So we live not in fear of the ending, but in trust of the beginning. And that’s no trick – it’s His treat.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
