You know, relationships can be tricky. They’re not always clear-cut, and sometimes we’re left wondering, “What’s the right way to handle this?”
I think of Jesus in that tense moment – pressed for an answer, He stooped down and wrote on the ground. He didn’t rush. He paused. Maybe He prayed. He created space. That’s a model for us: take a breath before reacting, let prayer and reflection influence our response.
Many of us can agree that a lot of times, our answers come too fast. They’re shaped by our own assumptions, our personal paradigms, or even our need to be “right.” And when “right” and “wrong” become the only lens we use, we can miss the bigger picture.
Scripture reminds us – the whole Law boils down to this: Love your neighbor as yourself. That’s not about winning an argument or proving a point. It’s about asking, “How would I want to be treated here?” and letting that guide us.
Love doesn’t guarantee peace. We can influence others, but we can’t control their response. Our job is to be careful in our delivery and leave the results in the hands of God.
So, here’s the invitation: in challenging conversations, before we speak, before we act, pause. “Write in the dust,” and when we stand up, let love be our lens.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
