So many believers carry a quiet pressure to “find their purpose,” as if fulfillment is hiding somewhere just out of reach. But for those who belong to Christ, any purpose that fits neatly into this world is far too small.
We’re part of something so much bigger – a divine plan that began before us, moves through us, and stretches beyond the timeline of this world itself.
Our purpose isn’t “out there” waiting to be discovered. It’s rooted in God’s master plan: “to bring everything together under the authority of Christ – everything in heaven and on earth” (Ephesians 1:10, NLT). Just as shepherds and magi were drawn into the drama of His birth, we too are drawn into His unfolding work.
So how do we live into that kind of purpose? By abiding in Him (John 15:5). Staying close. Staying connected. Staying responsive.
Fruitfulness isn’t something we engineer; it’s something we bear as we cultivate our relationship with Christ.
We simply carry the fruit He grows through us day by day – without judging its significance, without measuring it by earthly standards. By remembering it is His fruit we’re bearing, not ours. His to use however and whenever He pleases. Whether He serves it as a quiet snack for one or a feast for thousands, the choice is His. Its reach, impact, and recipients belong to Him. And this is where our true purpose lives – in the joy of staying close to Him, not in the scale of what we produce.
So we do not measure our spiritual effectiveness by our plans, our projections, or the applause of others. In the eyes of the One whose judgment matters most, success is not the size of our fruit but the depth of our trust in Christ. For the Child whose birth we just celebrated is – and forever will be – the Lord of all. And He has already defined our purpose: “They asked Him, ‘What must we do to do the works God requires?’ Jesus answered, ‘The work of God is this: to believe in (trust in, rely upon, draw near to) the One He has sent’” (John 6:28-29).
