Meister Eckhart, a medieval theologian, once wrote, “God is like a person who clears his throat while hiding, and so gives Himself away.”
He seems to do this even more in springtime, when the world becomes His paint‑box: flowers wave at us in the sunlight, orchards breathe out their fragrance, lawns wake up, and trees and shrubs add fresh layers of green to the scenery.
Yes, God makes His presence known. He not only clears His throat – He invites us to look around. He seems to say, I keep doing this for you to enjoy.
In the complementary words of Elizabeth Barrett Browning:
Earth is crammed with heaven,
And every bush afire with God,
But only those who see take off their shoes.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
