“All these toys were never intended to possess my heart. My true good is in another world, and my real treasure is Christ.” — C.S. Lewis
The good news in Lewis’s words is that while our true good awaits us in the world to come, we don’t have to wait until then to begin enjoying it. That goodness is already ours in the relationship with Christ we now share as believers.
There is a difference between what delights us and what can actually sustain us. The good things of life – comforts, accomplishments, even the people we cherish – are gifts meant to be enjoyed, not enthroned. They lose their shine when we ask them to carry the weight of our identity, our hope, or provide the fullness our souls long for. Christ alone can do that. For He doesn’t just season our lives; He is the life!
When the lesser things slip through our fingers, it becomes a divine reminder of our true riches – the One who is our treasure that does not fade, fracture, or fail. In Him our desires find their true home, and our hearts find the freedom to enjoy the gifts without mistaking them for the Giver.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
