Having reviewed a number of pieces I’d written about the Lord, – glorious things, amazing truths – I felt strangely numb to them. I didn’t doubt the truth of the words, I was just unaffected by them. I wondered if my faith needed a maintenance check. Then I realized words about the Lord are like a photograph. They capture Him in a moment in time, the way we might photograph a friend standing by the Lincoln Memorial. The photograph captures a real moment but it is not a substitute for the relationship. The blessing is realizing the Lord is with us even when that special moment has passed. Furthermore, He is always greater than our most glorious descriptions of Him. “So to whom will you compare Me, the Incomparable? Can you picture Me without reducing Me?” (Isaiah 46:5 MSG). Fresh disclosures, even from familiar truths about Him always lie ahead of us.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
