According to the Scriptures, Jesus came to bring “immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Timothy 2:10). Immortality is not attained by leaving behind a great work of art or literature or even by changing the world so profoundly that a monument is erected in our honor. No matter how lauded or celebrated they may be, dead people are still dead. They are not conscious of how many people admire them posthumously.
True immortality can only be attained by actually becoming immortal. That is what Jesus offers through the gospel. Immortality begins the moment we accept His offer of eternal life. From that moment onward, He gives us fascinating “samples” of our immortality through our personal relationship with Him. Then, when this earthly life comes to an end, the conscious “me” inside of each of us does not cease to exist but departs to receive a new spiritual body and to be physically with Christ forever. Immortals rejoice!
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
