Heads up! This is a dense one!
As believers, we have been blessed with “every spiritual blessing in Christ” (Ephesian 1:3). One of those blessing is “the fear of the Lord” (i.e. reverence, respect and honor in our hearts towards Him). This is a direct result of the Lord’s promise: “And I will make an everlasting covenant with them… and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts…” (Jeremiah 32:9). “The fear of the Lord” is part of the new nature we received when we came to Christ. Therefore, all the blessings the Scriptures confer on those who “fear the Lord” are ours in Christ. For example, “He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure” (Isaiah 33:6). We can claim this promise on our best day and on our worst day because “the fear of the Lord” is not measured by our performance; it is in the DNA of our new nature. God put it there! Yes, there are New Testament verses that exhort us to live our lives in the fear of the Lord, but these are exhortations to live consistent with what we are, not directives to try to be something we are not. In Christ and because of God’s indwelling Spirit you have been made to be one who fears the Lord. Embrace your identity and the promises we’ve been given and your behavior will follow.
Something to take a moment to seriously consider today.
