The American work (a-holic) ethic is not necessarily how the Lord works. For Him, “busy” is not necessarily better. Working by faith and waiting in faith are equally virtuous.
As an example, even though Lazarus was deathly ill, Jesus didn’t rush to Lazarus’ side because Jesus knew waiting was going to result in a more glorious outcome. In other words, “Don’t just sit there, do something” is not necessarily more biblical than “Don’t just do something, sit there.”
As the Lord said to Jehoshaphat, “Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you…” (2 Chronicles 20:17). Jehoshaphat saw a greater miracle by waiting than he could ever have produced by attacking.
Therefore, when it comes to accomplishing God’s purposes, let us neither be overly confident in our own timetables and activities nor frustrated when things don’t go according to our plans. Sometimes the most effective action we can take is to wait on the Lord.
Something to take just a moment to prayerfully consider today.
