“I will be careful to lead a blameless life… I will walk in my house with blameless heart” (Psalm 101:2).
As admirable as this aspiration of David’s was, he simply wasn’t able to achieve it. Try as he would, he could neither produce a blameless life nor a blameless heart.
This is our story as well. In fact, most of us – knowing who we are – wouldn’t even dare make such a declaration because we know that more than likely, even before the day is done, we will have failed.
And yet our story is also different.
Though we could not produce either, Christ has given us both. We are blameless before God and we have been given a new heart. But only because of Christ. It is only because of our faith in Him that we can celebrate our blameless status before God. That is why the apostle Paul, recognizing his own imperfections, famously declared, “May I never boast except in the cross of Christ” (Galatians 6:14). According to the Scriptures, blamelessness before God is not something we can achieve; it is a gift to be received.
Something to take just a moment to consider and/or remember today.
