“Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long. But the LORD is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked” (Psalm 129:3-4).
Let us give thanks to the Lord for His protection and for the resilience He gives us day by day. Though the evil one, in all his attempts and in all his forms, may “lengthen our furrows,” (that is, make more work and hardship for us) the Lord faithfully reminds us of His presence with us. The evil one may thwart our plans but He will never prevail against the Lord’s purposes for us. The evil one, through his human agents, may forecast gloom and doom, but revitalizing hope from on high will always break through the clouds of discouragement and despair. So, let our hearts rest in the truth aptly expressed in the lyrics of the great hymn, “As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be. Great is thy faithfulness Lord unto me.”
