We often think of temptation as an influence towards unhealthy or unloving behavior, but equally as destructive (and, arguably, even more so) is the temptation that comes after we have given in to the initial temptation. I am referring to the temptation of unhealthy beliefs – about ourselves or about God when we have, well, “messed up.” But whatever may be its form, the Scriptures promise us, “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it” (1 Corinthians 10:13). The promise is not that God will keep us from ever succumbing to temptation but that whether we are resisting or wishing we had resisted, we can trust Him to provide the support, encouragement and guidance we need for wherever we are.
Something to take just a moment to thankfully consider today.
