A friend of mine described to another person a difficult situation he was experiencing but added that he was also thankful. The person he was talking to responded, “Yeah, it could always be worse.” My friend gently shared with the person that even though that is true, his perspective is “I’m thankful because God is blessing me now, right in this difficulty.”
That kind of thankfulness is a product of an advanced faith that is sometimes hard to explain because others often misunderstand it. My friend was not saying he liked his present situation. Nor was he saying that he wouldn’t prefer it to be otherwise. What he was saying is he has become aware that God is blessing him right in his present place with spiritual blessings that are as real and as valuable as any circumstantial blessing.
My friend is not singularly focused on God getting him out of the difficulty but recognizes that God is always giving and loving and faithful towards us. Not just when He delivers us from the fires of adversity but even as we stand amid them. There is a blessing in the storm as well as when the storm clears. The offer for a deeper, fuller, and more personal relationship with Him is always extended to us, in all situations.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
