When your spirit is gloomy, sometimes the very best thing to do is to take a break from bemoaning the problem(s) before the Lord and spend some time worshiping the Lord Himself, to “ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name” (Psalm 29:2). That means remembering – and sometimes it’s more effective to do this “remembering” with words spoken, not just in our minds – that He is not only the Exalted One, but also the Exceeding One, surpassing all beauty, power, splendor, and wisdom. He is greater than all our worries, disappointments, sorrow, and everything else that is part of the human experience.
We may not be able to change our situation; we often cannot control our feelings, but we can always choose our focus! As we fix our eyes on Jesus Himself, it can change the way we experience our situation and the way we interpret our feelings, leading us from the oppression of a spirit of gloom to a spirit of glorious hope.
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
