I reject the subtle, faith-undermining suggestion of the evil one that the world I encounter during my every day routine is the “real” world and my relationship with Christ is confined to the church building, or to my devotional nook. Instead, I choose to believe, as the Lord instructs us, that the material world is the evidence that He is, and that He fills heaven and earth.
The truth is He is as real as the road that I walk on and the ground that supports it. As real as the weather that surrounds me and the smell of wet, fallen leaves. As real as the sound of the squawking crow and the melodious mockingbird. As real as the vibrant colors of fall. As real as the across-the-driveway conversation between my neighbors. As real as the squirrel scurrying across the road. As real as stop lights and the line of cars waiting for them to change. As real as the scaffolding on buildings and the heavy equipment used by the builders. As real as the feel of a warm cup of coffee and the taste of a breakfast muffin. And on top of all that, He is nearer to me than my own consciousness.
His reality is not dependent on location, feelings, perception or even belief. His very name, as He declared it to Moses is, “I Am.”
Something to take just a moment to consider today.
